Historical and Traditional Perspective

Spotlight on Red Clover - also known as - trefoil, purple clover,
cow clover and trifolium
.

Red Clover is one of the worlds oldest agricultural crops, with a long history for being cultivated as forage.
Red Clover also has a long history as a religious symbol. The Romans, the ancient Greeks and the Celts of pre-christian Ireland all revered it. Early Christians linked the plant to the Trinity with its three leaf cluster and some say it is the model for Irelands symbol, the shamrock. Red clover was also the model for the suit of clubs in playing cards.
Studies show Red Clover to be promising for antitumour and anticancer activity. It may also relieve menopausal symptoms due to its phyto-oestorgen activity.Red Clover has long been used as a remedy for bronchitis, asthma and whooping cough, and is recommended for acne, psoriasis, eczema and skin purification.
Red Clover is a pleasantly sweet infusion employing the dried flower heads.
