Our Dandelion is dry roasted and ground to a fine powder so it can be used as an instant drink - mixed with hot water or milk. It has a deep, rich flavour and is a stisfying coffee substitute. You only need 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon per cup. The jar contains approximately 40 serves. This powdered form is also useful for baking in cakes, biscuits and sweets, or sprinkled over deserts for that ' chocolatey' taste.

Historical and Traditional Perspective
Spotlight on Dandelion - also known as - Lion's tooth, wild endive, blowball, puffball, wet the bed and cankerwort.
A well known weed growing wild all over the world in gardens, pastures and meadows. The root grows down quite deep and if broken off at ground level will ever continue to regrow. Dandelion is a nutritious healing herb with a medicinal reputation dating back more than 1000 years. Dandelion has a long tradition of being used as a liver and gall bladder tonic and diuretic (removing excess water from the body), with excellent benefits for fluid retention. During the Middle Ages, Europeans believed in the Doctrine of Signatures - the idea that a plants' physical characteristics reveal their medicinal value. Under this doctrine anything yellow was linked to the livers yellow bile and was considered a liver remedy. Dandelion has a juicy root, stem and leaves and this explained its used to treat water retention. The fresh leaves can be used as a salad vegetable and have a slightly bitter sharpness somewhat like rocket.
