It lends its intensely aromatic flavor to sauces, baked goods and liqueurs eg ouzo, and pastries. It is often used as a substitute for licorice with a milder flavour than Star Anise. In traditional medicine Aniseed is used as a digestive and stomach carminative, an expectorant and a parasiticide.
